Creating Art with Nature Workshop

Accompong Town, Jamaica

Forthcoming

Come join us to use the earth’s bounty to make art that can be marketed as distinctive Maroon products. We will harvest and use Indigenous Plants of the Cockpit Country to create artistic, marketable designs in clothing, jewelry, stationary, household products and sculpture, and your creative ideas!

Objectives

·       Identify and use local plants available in the natural environment to make practical items of beauty that can be marketed and sold

·       Apply techniques for dyeing and designing clothing, jewelry, and works of art

·       Plan approaches to integrate these objectives within the participants’ lives and work, for example, as entrepreneurs, teachers, environmentalists, and artists

Workshop Leaders

Nan Travers, US fiber artist and educator, will join Accompong Maroon artists in leading a 3-day workshop where local and international participants will apply techniques for using plants creatively, including dyeing, imprinting leaf forms, matting, carving nuts, stringing seeds—limited only by our imaginations.
